Gustavo Prata (1987)

Is a Brazilian visual artist based in São Paulo, with a degree in Social Communication with an emphasis on Marketing and postgraduate training in Graphic Design. His background informs his interest in how words, images, and materials construct meaning, direct attention, and shape desire. While marketing and design often seek to convey messages or encourage consumption, his artistic practice examines these processes and their implications.

He investigates how narratives are produced, mediated, and circulated through packaging, pamphlets, magazines, newspapers, and discarded objects. Their printed surfaces carry promises, instructions, and representations of ways of living, while their physical qualities reveal traces of handling, use, and abandonment. He is interested in the tension between these materials’ brief usefulness and the persistence of the cultural and ideological meanings embedded in them.

Through collection, accumulation, and cataloging, he explores the logic of acquisition and obsolescence, giving lasting presence to what is expected to disappear. His works move between the intimacy of individual habits and the scale of collective consumption, examining how ordinary gestures participate in broader social patterns and how their traces register the beliefs, anxieties, and desires of particular times and places.
